I’ve Been Away. I’m not going to pretend I’ve been on a carefully planned sabbatical, quietly recharging before a triumphant return.
The truth is messier than that. Life has a habit of doing what it wants, regardless of your content calendar.
But here’s the thing about stepping away — even when it’s not by choice — you come back with fresh eyes. And fresh eyes notice things that familiarity had long since buried.
What I noticed
The internet got louder. Everyone has a newsletter, a course, a five-step framework, and a very strong opinion about your morning routine. The noise is extraordinary.
And yet, underneath all of it, the same problems persist. Small business owners are still drowning in tech they don’t understand. Authors are still launching into silence. Creatives are still brilliant at their craft and completely lost at everything else.
Nobody needed more noise. They needed someone to cut through it.
I’ve Been Away. That’s what I came back for.
What’s new (and why it matters)
Over the past few months, I’ve been rethinking how I work with authors specifically.
Not the tasks — I’ve always handled those. But the timing.
Most authors come to a VA when the book is finished. The cover needs designing, the manuscript needs typesetting, the website needs updating. All of that is fine. All of that is useful.
But it’s also too late for the most important part.
Readers don’t fall in love with a launch. They fall in love with a journey. And if you’re only inviting them in on publication day, you’ve missed months — sometimes years — of connection that no amount of Amazon ads can replicate.
That’s the thinking behind something I’ve been building quietly: The Backstage Pass.
It’s a done-for-you service for authors who want to build a reader tribe from Chapter One, not scramble for one at launch. I handle the architecture — the platform, the systems, the engagement strategy. You stay in the OIL (Observation, Imagination, Language) and send me the raw material.
We’ll talk more about that properly soon. But if the words “launching into silence” landed somewhere familiar just now — keep an eye on this space.
I’m a VA with over a decade of experience in the bits of business that most people find overwhelming. WordPress, typesetting, author platforms, digital systems, retailer specs. The technical, the strategic, and the quietly essential.
I’ve Been Away. But if you’ve been managing without proper support, welcome. You don’t have to any more.
Let’s build something solid.
